  • Not remotely possible given google’s close ties with the US military and surveillance systems, as well as vertical integration.

But let’s pretend they’re identical, as a thought experiment:

I would rather have two Googles forced to compete with each other than one monopoly

And as a US consumer I’m much safer having my personal data harvested by a Chinese Google than a US Google. The latter is fully integrated with advertizers and surveillance that have actual legal and economic power over me.

  • I have never used Periphery but this seems fine.

Open source is great as far as empowering individuals with the knowledge of what code their machines run, and opening avenues for collaboration among diverse programmers.

It’s also been a highly productive commons-maker that for-profit corporations can freely extract value from, often turning around and using some of their profits to undermine the open source movement (not to mention supporting war crimes and whatnot).

Everyone deserves to be paid for their labor, but especially if it’s being used in closed-source profit-generating software.

  • This is nonsense

I regularly set up Firefox because I distro hop and like to buy cheap thinkpads. It takes like 30 seconds to do some quick toggles in the settings. Half of them are regular shit like tab behavior because I don’t like the defaults, and that’s okay. 15 seconds to install ublock. Couple minutes in about:config

Would it be kinda nice if all the defaults just happened to align with my specific wants and needs? Sure, I guess. But I’m an adult with agency and am happy to click some toggles.

If maintaining and updating a codebase didn’t take so much labor then it’d be cool to use obscure single-maintainer forks. But up-to-date security and non-google alternatives are orders of magnitude more important to me than having to click a few toggles once.

  • I acknowledge it was used within rightwing spaces, even that they had influence over its evolution. But your model implies “pilling” was ever wholly appropriated by rightwing culture, which would require it to have died out in other contexts. And I’m arguing it never did, that it maintained regular usage outside of that context and thus can’t be assumed to be a rightwing signifier.

Even during the blip in time where specifically redpill was associated with manosphere pickup culture, bluepill’s meaning evolved as the counter to it (for those that were exposed to the trend; both terms’ general meanings never entirely vanished), and shortly after there was the ironic/postironic re-appropration of the new form of red pill. So even then one couldn’t assume a person’s ideology solely from usage of x-pill terminology.

But regardless of whether right-wing culture actually successfully appropriated the terminology a decade ago, it since has maintained widespread usage and evolved on its own in quasi-mainstream online spaces. So to claim the OP is mistakenly signaling some sort of incel ideology is questionable at best.

“Woke” is somewhat similar in that its common definition was renegotiated by rightwing appropriation. But in this case the word largely lost any original meaning as it became a floating signifier for rightwing rage. And even in this case, it’d need to be usage of the term as a pejorative to be considered rightwing signaling, usage of the term itself isn’t necessarily so, per se (e.g. people reclaiming the word as pro-woke or using it ironically like dark-woke).

  • This article is pretty shoddy. It acknowledges that “red/blue pill” comes from the Matrix but then acts like incels were the only ones using it and pushing its evolution as a suffix. When in reality it developed across the whole internet, not just within incel communities. Oldass encyclopedia being out of touch.

“Blackpilled” specifically basically just means pessimistic, doomer, etc. I see it used in this context on a regular basis with no association to incel, rightwing, or misogynist ideologies.

It certainly has its own unique meaning within those communities, but it’s very clear that’s not how OP was using it. To argue they were misusing the term you’d have to prove that most people here associate “x-pill” terminology with incels, rather than directly with The Matrix and/or how the terminology is commonly used on social media by regular people.

  • Again again: morality and moral statements are not what I’m arguing against, I’m arguing against a bastardization of baby-level Marxism that conflates material analysis for moral analysis to try to justify marginal culpability. From a moral perspective, I don’t care what self-benefit you and your settler friends got from the child-killing machine, you’re morally monsters and deserve to rot in pain.

From a Marxist perspective, we can examine the systemic mechanisms that produce this human behavior so we can try to engage with it to achieve desired outcomes, e.g. the liberation of the global working class (not the moral absolution of the white imperial “working” class). But to use echoes of memes of Marxist theory for a moralist analysis like you keep pathetically attempting to do is an idealist perversion of Marxism.

I’ll remind you of the dumbass “argument” you tried to start this with:

    You’ve clearly never been poor

  • Yes, I understand the point you keep mindlessly parroting because I actually read your comments before replying. I’ll address it once again: analyzing marginal moral culpability is a fundamentally idealist notion at best so to try to involve rudimentary “materialist analysis” is laughable. The system recreates itself, people are influenced by material interests, great. Baby-level Marxism.

If you want to do actual material analysis, first you’re gonna have to put some work in and study concrete material data, not some abstract fantasy of a clean wehrmacht impoverished US soldier forced to kill people cause they wanna go to fucking college. Then use that analysis to determine the class character of different segments of the people you’re examining, so that you can then identify real praxis opportunities, weak points in the structure, organizing and radicalization potential.

Then you can go out and do shit instead of bloviating about the marginal moral purity of fascist footsoldiers and questioning whether non-bootlickers have ever experienced “real hardship” like these “poor” middle class settlers (then panicking when your adhom doesn’t apply and falling back on freshman-level debate tactics)

  • You have no real argument so you’re inventing shit to argue against, debate pervert.

You are the only one trying to quantify moral culpability, and you’re the one trying to claim “materialism” in your “analysis” of the innocence of fascist foot soldiers. You’re the one misusing baby’s first Marxist terminology to try to morally whitewash the fascism inherent to every atom of the imperialist machine.

The imperialist machine reproducing itself through financial incentive isn’t fucking insightful, it’s basic Marxism 101 shit. It’s also non-unique and fundamentally flattens moral considerations because everyone does what they do for reasons. And it’s already been addressed why selling out your fellow workers for financial benefit isn’t a defense.

Graduate from middle school and read more than half the Manifesto, I beg of you.

But it really is an indictment of the Western left that the sole purpose of your “material analysis” seems to be negotiating the minutiae of moral culpability of individuals in the fascist machine. Fully defanged bastardization of actual theory from people whose only exposure is memes and videos.

  • You are dressing up moralism in Marxist language. Marxist materialism has fuck all to do with moral culpability, which is the topic at hand.

If you want to talk about the tactical utility of radicalizing current and former US soldiers, that is where a material analysis is useful. I’ll toss whatever ethical considerations aside if it means advancing the liberation of the global working class.

But trying to use surface-level Marxist language to minimize the moral responsibility of fascist foot soldiers is equally hilarious and disgusting.
