You don’t make any sense

In my experience, Finder can’t even do what it’s named (find anything) and it feels dumbed down like it doesn’t want me to find certain things (part of that may be MacOS’s design though too) ;(

Windows file explorer was alright, until they botched it in Windows 11 (like how the botched everything in that “update”). Last time I used it at work, they still hadn’t got tabs working without it being a buggy, slow mess.

Dolphin file explorer (for linux) is hands-down the best. It has every feature and integration I have ever wanted and it does what it says on the tin without being buggy. Truly the power users’ file explorer.

Not tryna refute your experiences though. These are just mine.

Most annoying thing for me was their file explorer thing. It’s as if I’m on a phone. It’s not a real file explorer.

I think real mac users have to buy third party software so they can have an actual file explorer…

I tried Thunderbird but it baffles me that I can’t view an email and have the list of emails open on the side.

You can do that. That is how I use thunderbird.

I don’t remember if I had to change the default config, but I think it comes like that, no? Anyways, if not, it’s probably an easy setting somewhere to get it how you like.

And it has synced lyrics woooooo!!!

My recent improved flow is:

1. Put my new music in a ‘import’ folder
2. Run a beets container and tell it to import from the ‘import’ folder to my ‘music’ folder (beets tags all music with prompts before moving to my final music folder ofc).
3. Jellyfin (which already has a music library set up and pointing to my ‘music’ folder) automatically refreshes after a few seconds.
4. Listen and enjoy through jellyfin app/site OR through finamp (on android).

The best part is you can rip your music into the ‘import’ folder, or torrent, or get it direct from youtube. Thanks to the modularity provided with this setup, it doesn’t matter.

Not to mention self hostable web uis (like what comes with SFTPGo), which makes it really easy to upload a file from any random device.

Hm I could be wrong on the streaming videos etiquette, I can’t remember nor can I find where I originally heard that from.

Still think it’s a bad idea though. As another reason: Won’t you have an awfully slow connection to your server (tor is already slow just to access a plain html website)?

People’s IP addresses usually change so that might be annoying keeping a whitelist up to date.

A good alternative is something like fail2ban to ban ip addresses that spam your server looking for a way in and potentially geo-restricting access to your country.

Not 100% sure what you mean, but if you’re suggesting making it accessible publicly only through tor, that’s a bad idea (not to mention the people running tor don’t recommend streaming video through it).

Watcharr has integrations for Sonarr/Radarr with requests (that isn’t as advanced as seerr though), also game tracking if manually configured.

And jellyfin integration too! Hope dat helps.

Thank you, I think that might solve my issue if I can just periodically change my branch to the latest version and pin it there.

Thanks. I guess since I installed it fully before finding this out, I was looking for if was a silly worry to have or not before starting again with another distro.

I suppose I’ll just let it stew in my noggin before deciding if the slight extra peace of mind is worth it, even though I have disabled auto updates with their hacky (unsupported) method of marking my connection as metered (who knows if thats reliable since its unsupported).

That’s good to be aware of. I was also kinda put a back by a github issue raised by someone who could no longer toggle off auto updates with ujust.

It got solved by them adding the command back, just to be silently broken again by them renaming and subsequently removing it again (still removed as far as I’m aware).

Weird first impression on how quickly things are broken with no alternative.

Thanks for your answer. I have a lot of trust with Fedora, I guess I am more worried specifically about bazzites build process potentially being exploited. Sounding like I am being extra paranoid with Bazzite for maybe no reason

If you are learning because you are just interested in this, then I might say go with any language like C/Go where you have real datatypes you can work with.

C might be a good place to start for a little while where you can learn the fundamentals like data types, logic, etc.

Once armed with the fundamentals, you can really just go wherever you desire, look at and maybe try a few to see what you like.

Um, I have to disagree with your points on Go/Rust. You make Rust sound like the easier language, when in reality it just isn’t.

And what concurrency thing are you talking abou with Go? Goroutines/channels are pretty decent in Go.

I probably wouldn’t tell anyone to learn Rust unless they truly desired it specifically for a certain task.

Rust is also harder to get into because everything you want to do requires a package, but on the other hand Go is much easier because of its expansive standard library.

Um… vas? Maybe I don’t get it, but you’re just forking and tweaking already open source software? How does this change the model of anything?
