It is though? Is the bar so low that simply having to read, comprehend and follow instructions is disqualifying?
Maybe you need to abandon desktop computing and go purchase an iPad

It’s in fucking notepad

They could go on the offensive with messaging and get subscribers to apply pressure on Apple to keep things the same… Would it work? Probably not, but it might get some of the Apple users onside.

Right? You’d think Patreon would throw their weight against Apple, as this is clearly not in their best interest. Threaten to pull the app, and if Apple follows through, they get nothing. Alternatively, move payments entirely outside of the app and force Apple to either do something which is guaranteed to be extremely unpopular, or call their bluff. But they won’t do these things or even try to negotiate Apple’s cut.
Apple may appear to swing the biggest dick here, but I am so disgusted by these weak companies just immediately bending over without a fight.
As always, it’s the creators who will be faced with hardship, but neither entity seems to give a shit.

Subbed in podcast addict. Good timing, having just spun up my first proxmox cluster.

Hey, just because I preach harm reduction, doesn’t mean I’m gonna kink shame

I would caution against fucking Windows - you’ll likely end up with a nasty virus

I’m not sure we disagree. I agree that LLMs are not a good source for raw knowledge, and it’s definitely foolish to use them as if they’re some sort of oracle. I already mentioned that they are not good at providing answers, especially in a technical context.
What they are good at is gathering sources and recontextualizing your queries based on those sources, so that you can pose your query to human experts in a way that will make more sense to them.
You’re of course in your absolute right to avoid the tech entirely, as it comes with many pitfalls. Many of these models are damn good at gathering info from real human sources, though, if you can be concise with your prompts and avoid the temptation of swallowing its “analysis”.

Exactly, just look at the dropoff on stack overflow recently

You can’t rely on LLMs to get actual answers for technical things but it can help avoid a huge amount of wasted time and effort, back-and-forth, going in circles, talking around or past the issues etc. that is seen in threads everywhere in these types of expert niche communities. Besides, maybe my question has already been answered.
When I don’t know the specific terms or framing, am missing context or am trying to get from A to C, but have no idea that B even exists, nevermind how (or who) to ask about it. If I can accelerate the process of clearing that up, I can go to the correct human expert or community with a much better handle on what it is I’m actually looking for and how to ask for it.

The headset stuff I 100% agree with. Unless I’m going to be stationary and listen to music very intentionally. There is a noticeable hit to audio quality over bt (if your files are HQ enough)

I may be an old-school Luddite for it, but I’ve never understood the advantage of wireless peripherals beyond aesthetics. I want something slightly heavy that feels good in the hand, and I want to plug it in, have it just start working natively and not have to worry about extra drivers or a battery dying.
It would be one thing if there were a universal dongle that you just left plugged in, but all the ones I’ve encountered are proprietary and specific to the brand or model if not that specific mouse. So if you lose the thing, you now have basically a paperweight.
I had a Microsoft mouse once that was a good compromise in that it came with an optional USB c cable. It also didn’t use a dongle and just operated via Bluetooth. It was heavy AF and had nice haptics on the scroll wheel. But, in true Microsoft fashion it was completely dead after 2 years of heavy daily use.

Same here. But they’ve all been wired mid-range models. My current ones are on their 7th year. And I don’t use the software. I may be too poor and not elite enough to experience these issues.

Stupidity isn’t ageist I’m afraid

They do attempt to, with cookies as well1. I suppose the upside of an account would be that you could carry your recommendations, etc. with you and have vpn on and/or cookies blocked.
1 I would never visit this site myself of course. this info was shared to me via an acquaintance ( ͡ᵔ ͜ʖ ͡ᵔ )

You don’t happen to have a clothes dryer at home, do you?
Your wife do any squirting? Runs away
EDIT: for context, “squirting” is what Microsoft called the Zune’s unique music sharing feature. Yes, really
