Anyone paying for Ai are also responsible for this. They are those who rent and create a profitable business. And I’m not just talking about users like Microsoft, but also people like you and me and smaller companies.

True, but paying a company $20 a month versus paying a company $200 or $2000 or $20000 or $200000 or $2000000 a month are all vastly different numbers.

As an individual, yes. But the mass makes a big difference. Just because there are terrible companies throwing trash in the ocean does not mean it is okay for you to throw your single trash into it too. And if you do, you are not better than them, you just have less money to throw at it. That’s the kind of message I’m trying to communicate.

That’s true too, there is a cumulative effect.

I guess I’m a shitty person then because I use AI (even outside of work where I’m chosing to use it and not forced to use it), although I guess shitty people can still do good things so maybe it’s not all bad.

I do get it though, the way AI is being used, the way companies abuse it to replace employees and layoff thousands, tens of thousands, etc, and the environmental impact AI has from the sheer scale of it is destroying the environment is all terrible and indefensible, but ultimately I find it too helpful for me to go without using it.

Mind you, I’m not 100% against using Ai. But it should be used responsibly, and only on your local hardware without paying money to support them. This doesn’t solve the issue that the models are trained unethical. I have a few local Ai models installed, but my hardware is weak and it is only semi helpful for simple questions or brainstorming, or looking at simple functions (programming) to help with refactoring. Nothing else though.

Before you accuse me of being a hypocrit, I never said nobody should ever use Ai tools ever. My initial comment was about being bad person if you pay these companies money and support them this way. But ultimately you have your own definition of bad person, and if that is the most important thing in the world for you. And no, I’m also not Jesus. lol
