Couldn’t you just directly transfer files via a USB cable? Last time I checked, you don’t need any software for Android <–> Windows, or Android <–> Linux.
I use ProtonVPN* (paid) and using North American servers works most of the time. I also use secure core through Switzerland first befote it goes to the NA servers.
I use Fennec + u Block Origin to watch youtube, works flawlessly 99% of the time.
*Although Proton has a recent controversy with one of its board members, Andy Yen, regarding his opinions on US politics.
Or just fascism, nazi is a specific brand of fascism
Except Proton AG is owned by a Non-Profit, the Proton Foundation. Andy Yen can’t directly pocket the profits, except by asking the non-profit board of trustees to give him a raise in salary (and there’s probably legal limitations to the salary, otherwise everyone could just claim to be a “Non-Profit” while secretly making profits).
?
I use ProtonVPN (paid) and its works with Youtube just fine. I mean, occasionally you get a “Sign in to prove your’re not a bot”, but I just disconnect and reconnect and its a new server and it should work.
I mostly use North America servers via the “Secure Core” feature through Switzerland.
I’m using Fennec + uBlock Origin.
For Lemmy, you should use another instance that allows VPNs. I can even use Tor on top of VPN on my instance.
Btw I wouldn’t worry about the Andy Yen debacle unless he starts going full elon. He’s only one board member after all. (But I am keeping an eye on it and preparing to move to alternatives)
I use Fennec (aka: Firefox minus the Google Play shenanigans) + uBlock Origin, over a VPN
Works 99% of the time (gotta keep the uBlock Origin filters up to date)
If you get a “Sign in to prove you’re not a bot”, just keep switching servers until it works. Use paid VPNs, because Free VPN IPs are more likely to be flagged.
.ml =/= Fediverse
That’s like saying:

No, I would not describe him as a trump supporter. I would say that he’s a right-wing “Libertarian” tech-bro that has no clue about American politics, just spewing his uneducated bs because he thinks he’s some genius. He might be a CERN scientist, but he’s a dumbass when it comes to American politics.
(But it is concerning to have such an idiot on the board of the Proton Foundation)
PIRACY IS BAD AND ONLY BAD PEOPLE DO IT.
I’ve never pirated anything in my whole life!
Good thing you said that, I was about to send some agents to have a “nice chat” with you.
I mean, the 2 options I’m thinking is:
Use KeepassDX (installed via Fdroid) + Biometrics
(downside being the possibility of Biometric exploits)
Or
Use Keepass2Android + Quick Unlock (without biometrics)
(downside being Google doing malicious update)
Which would be the “more secure” option?
(I don’t want to type the entire passphrase every time, that’s all I care about, but still want the most secure option that’s isn’t too inconvienient)
Andy Yen might be a CERN scientist, but he’s conpletely ignorant of US politics. I think hes just spewing his uneducated political opinions, not necessary being pro-trump. It’s kinda concerning tho, I don’t really like a privacy service being run by an idiot (on the topic of politics, at least), not gonna switch overnight, but definitly start looking into alternatives in case he or the board goes full elon mode.
How do these apps still work? Aren’t the apis fucked? Is this just some fancy browser with extra steps?
Inb4 Lemmy ban
The law allowing this happen was already passed, by a democratically* elected government. All the court is saying is that the law isn’t unconstitutional. They don’t decide what laws are “right” or “wrong”, merely that it doesn’t (in their opinion) contradict the constitution.
*how democratic it is is debatable, but still… an election did take place that put congress (and the president) in power
Nothing to do with the data collection, the court was ruling on the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act’s constitutionality.
“Here at Proton, we believe that all life is sacred, thats why we gave the IP addresses of pregnant teens who are planning to get an abortion”
(even compiling the user client yourself won’t protect against IP logging, also, external emails arrive at proton servers in plain text)
There’s a way (at least on samsung) to disable auto updates.
Turn off “Auto update over wifi”, then mark all wifi networks as “metered”. Voila! The system will treat wifi as mobile data and not auto download the update.
Btw, in modern android versions, alarm will work in BFU (Before First Unlock) mode if you use the system clock app. (
third-party alarm apps will not work in BFU modeActually, third-party alarm apps do work)
