Technology@lemmy.world•Valve Announces New Steam Machine, Steam Controller & Steam FrameEnglish
1·29 days agoIf a game isn’t easy to play with a controller then I’m probably just not going to play it with a controller to begin with honestly, track pads or no. If I have to mess with stuff in desktop mode on my steam deck then I use the pads but otherwise, I haven’t really found them useful.

2·30 days agoSadly I’ve got too many programs that don’t work on linux, or don’t work well. And an old synthesizer that I can’t imagine would work on linux unless I made a driver for it myself, and that’s a bit beyond me.

722·1 month agoIf you let your cat roam around outside, you don’t care about it and don’t deserve it. And if it gets killed, it’s entirely your fault.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Future of Advertising Is AI Generated Ads That Are Directly Personalized to YouEnglish
4·1 month agoAds can work on me but it’s context dependent.
If it’s something I was already aware of and wanting, I have noticed that it can push my mind further in the direction of wanting to get it.
The other context is food. Like, if I’m hungry and I see an ad for food, it always looks like it’d hit the spot even if I know it wouldn’t.
Otherwise it just doesn’t actively do anything. If I need a product and have seen advertisements for a specific one, I still do research before choosing what to go with. And rarely ever is it the one I saw advertised.
The psychology of advertising is very interesting especially when you can actively feel its effects on yourself, and when you can tell it’s doing nothing to you.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tragic Titan submersible’s $62 SanDisk memory card found undamaged at wreckage siteEnglish
31·2 months agoNah the young people are laughing about this as much as anyone else.
When I tried out fedora on my gaming PC I noticed most games ran noticeably worse on my Nvidia card. They still ran, you could still play, but the experience was nonetheless worse. Elden ring went from rarely dropping below 60 on windows to hovering around 45. FFXIV which would often be at 144fps, usually around 110 during dungeons and only dropping below 100 in really busy cities, went to never even reaching 100.
It’s doable but be prepared for games to run worse. When I looked up issues I found this was normal for Nvidia cards. So just be prepared.

Technology@lemmy.world•Missouri AG: Any AI That Doesn’t Praise Donald Trump Might Be “Consumer Fraud” (No, Really)English
12·5 months agoIt’s vague still as a native speaker, I imagine most people’s first instinct would be that “best” would be least antisemitic and “worst” would be most. The meaning in wording like this comes from whether or not what you are ranking people on is good or bad. To most people, antisemitism is bad. (or at least I’d hope) So “best” would mean “least”.
A better way of phrasing the question would just be to ask to rank them most to least antisemitic. That would be much less vague.

The thing is this is a legitimate problem for the overall success of this. And the success of Linux as a general gaming OS. If people can’t play their staples like CoD or fortnite or anything else with this problem, then that’ll be enough to decide not to get this. Most people here probably don’t care, but we’re not the majority. And a lot of us probably aren’t in the market for this anyway.
