Consoles are completely locked down so there is only one store you can buy from. Consoles are a safer bet that lost hardware sales would lead to making it up on games.

But, Steam Machine is a PC. Not only can you install games from outside the Steam store. You are able to completely replace the OS. You can have a completely Steamless experience on it.

Once you start shopping for LG, Samsung, Sony, TCL, etc everything is a smart TV. And lot of people buy TVs based on specs like HDR quality, latency, and frame output and those TVs usually come as a smart TV whether you want it or not.

Take PC gamers for instance. Some games like Valorant or Battlefield not being supported by anticheat on Linux keeps them on Windows. You think they are going to be rushing towards Android as their OS on PC only to find 0 of their steam library games being compatible? Rushing to the great wonder that is the Google Play store for games?

Windows 10 was when the stupid accounts became a thing on Windows and candy crush being installed after a fresh install so makes sense people never really loved 10. And they managed to make 11 even worse than it was at launch with the copilot crap.

You’re describing the shitty business models of publicly traded companies that hire thousands then lay off thousands and keep trying to do whatever they can to raise stock prices due to not targetting a sustainable stable company for the longterm but quarter by quarter profit targets.

That steam has been more conservative with hiring is probably why they’ve been able to have the resources to go into hardware even if it flops unlike EA, Ubisoft, and Epic despite having way more employees.

You don’t even have to release your game on pc to sell… Some don’t at all. Sticking to only consoles.

Hardware support is something I’d trust more from Valve than other companies if something goes wrong too. So if cost is comparable better perceived customer support would have me lean towards Valve.
