I’m here for entertainment and to engage with opinions, views and perspectives different than my own to grow myself. I don’t care if you downvote but if you don’t engage me I can’t learn from it so I may block you as I’ll take it that you don’t want to see my content.

Been a long time since I set foot in a data center; are tape drives not still king for cold storage of data?
What models of Seagate drives?
I’ve been running x4 Seagate ST8000NC0002s 24/7 for almost 5 years, plus 2 more I added about 6 months ago and they’ve never given me any trouble.
To be fair, the only HDDs I’ve ever had that failed were two I dropped because I wasn’t being careful enough.
I like small cars. I have a 2019 Kona and I love the size but I looked at the newer ones because I’m tempted by hybrid or EV. They the newer ones bigger so I decided to just hold onto my current car for a couple more years and then I’ll look at a Telo.
This is definitely worth mentioning but it’s also good to note that it was a loan not a bailout and Ford has repaid it.
Ford also received a $9.2B loan for EV battery factory projects from the government.
2.71Tb/515 series for TV, 6.28Tb/1176 titles in Movies.
Almost everything in MKV because that’s what I prefer.
I use Plex so it’s organized according to their requirements.
Everything is stored with a redundant backup on a Synology NAS with 6/9 HDD bays filled, totaling 48Tb in total storage space.
I run two servers (one on the Synology, one on a NUC-type Asus box) along with all my other systems.
Oh, and I have dual antenna tuners connected as well for live TV, DVR and playback.
Both “canceled” and “cancelled” are correct spellings, but they are used in different regions. “Canceled” is the preferred spelling in American English, while “cancelled” is preferred in British English.
For whatever reason, even though I’m American, canceled just looks wrong to me.
I know ‘canceled’ is the American spelling but it looks weird to me without the second L.
Exactly! My drives are all sitting at about 40°C but they’ll get up to 50°C at the hottest.
I run a fan because I have it in a wall mounted case but when I had it on a shelf it wasn’t actively cooled and never got higher than it does now.
It is in our basement though and it’s only ever gotten to 27°C down there a few times and that was without A/C.
And now those VPN subscriptions go up, up, up.
Obviously a guy that thinks being as dishonest as it is possible to get away with is perfectly good business.
That’s the secret to “earning” billions of dollars.
Did you know, John Deere never saw a tractor.
Yeah, I’d say that would cover them pretty well. Also, happy cake day!
Did the government claim it was accurate to the law? I’m guessing just providing code doesn’t open the government to liability. That would fall on anyone who implemented it. I always assumed that’s why for-cost software has Ts&Cs that indemnify them unless you pay extra for the protection.
Does the HOA restrict individual residents from putting them on their own property?
If they’re in shared common areas it affects all residents indiscriminately so it makes sense, to me at least, that unanimous agreement should be needed.
However, why not propose an alternative whereby this particular resident can add them to their property.
It took me 4 years but this is why I got our HOA disbanded.
