I do not want to platform Jack Dorsey on this stage. To that end, I am organizing a sit-in, in which I and anyone who will join me are going to sit ourselves down on the Janson stage during his allocated time slot and peacefully prevent the talk from proceeding as scheduled. We will be meeting at 11:45 AM outside of Janson, 15 minutes prior to Dorsey’s scheduled time slot. Once the stage is free from the previous speaker, we will sit on the stage until 12:30 PM.

Bad advice in this thread. As someone who spent half a decade building what (was) a quite impressive GitHub (github.com/dginovker), no interviewer or recruiter ever looked at it. This was after ~600 applications.
I also volunteered to be part of resume screening at two major companies. Not a single person in either company looked at GitHub repos.
To answer your initial question, use a library. Make cool things, learn good tech that is useful in the real world. You will never have a job where you have to reimplement a hashmap.

I’ve recently been on YCombinator’s co-founder matching service (for people looking to create a startup). It’s taught me SO much about writing good emails.
Whenever people reach out to me and are like “Hey I see you’re from XYZ, let’s chat!” I instantly reject the invite. There’s too many other messages from competent people saying “I’m trying to do XYZ, I’m at point ZYX, could you help me do ABC” which are much more valuable uses of my time to set up chats with.

Iirc this is because of how they’ve optimized the file reading process; it genuinely might be more work to add efficient frame-by-frame backwards seeking than this AI subtitle feature.
That said, jfc please just add backwards seeking. It is so painful to use VLC for reviewing footage. I don’t care how “inefficient” it is, my computer can handle any operation on a 100mb file.
