Currently using gnome with lots of extensions. Ive tried many DEs but gnome always feels like home. I also like kde a lot but there something about qt that feels so amateur and unpolished, and I can’t get steam to run on kde out of the box, with gnome it just works. Also the times I’ve used kde I always end up replicating the gnome layout so I just decided to stick with gnome in the long run

22·2 days agoWell Ryzen happened because Intel was stuck for years in the same 14 nm silicon. Nvidia gets their chips from tsmc, same as AMD so I don’t see it happening

Linux@lemmy.ml•Im sorta a computer hoarder but what can i do with some older desktops?
2·6 months agoDepending on the hardware windows might be the getter option. For example I have a laptop with a GPU that doesn’t support Vulkan or OpenGL 4.3, but it can run dx11 very well

Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•it's how the basic linear algebra subprograms are implemented
11·1 year agoNot only is it very difficult to write in assembly, the resulting code is not portable. Meaning that if you wrote it on x86 assembly it can’t run on ARM chips without emulation and that takes a significant hit on performance defeating the point
Ubuntu Lubuntu Xubuntu Kubuntu uwuntu Wubuntu Edubuntu Gendbuntu PopOs Mint
Those last two ruined the list smh
EOS is a godsend, I tend to reinstall my os after every semester and found that with pure arch is a pain in the ass. Just stick that eos iso and boom, 90% of what I need, just run 2 scripts for installing my programs and the zen kernel and I’m golden

I’d say about now, maybe just a few years behind. Phones come with 16gb of ram l, which is the most common config on steam. There are native ports on iOS. You can play resident evil 8 natively on an iPhone, you can emulate Cyberpunk 2077 on a high end Android.
I’d venture to say that any modern game could be ported to arm with very little compromise, and as arm laptops become more common this gap will be smaller and smaller. The biggest hit for running windows games on Android is having to translate x86 calls to arm calls, an arm windows binary would only have to run through proton which in some cases runs games better than windows itself.
