Technology@lemmy.world•Through gritted teeth, Apple and Google allow alternative app stores in JapanEnglish
11·5 days agoIf you’re waiting for a xenophobia-free society with no right-wing nationalist presence before you’re allowed to say something nice about a place, I’m afraid the only place we’re allowed to praise is the moon.

1·10 days agoIt’s a joke, my friend.
The idea being that these amazing, efficient taxis yield more accidents, more cheaply than a human.

223·13 days agoThis comes up a lot, and I don’t necessarily get it. I have all smart TVs, and I just never, ever, EVER let them connect to wifi even ONCE for any reason. It’s not like it NEEDS it for anything.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Open Source Developers Are Exhausted, Unpaid, and Ready to Walk Away
334·1 month agoAre you sure? Because based on the internet armchair developers I see around, open source developers are an inexhaustible source of unending miracles that work for free and are fueled by incoherent, conflicting, entitled demands from 14 year olds.

48·1 month agoNice troll bait.
No, I know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. Google’s old results were based on click-through determining which results were best. Now that the quality of the average user is lower, so is the quality of the average click-through result.
That’s as much response as you’re going to get though. You responded in bad faith, so now you’re going to talk to yourself if you choose to respond.

Technology@lemmy.world•Peter Thiel dumps entire Nvidia stake, slashes Tesla holdings amid bubble fearsEnglish
36·1 month agoThere is more to it than that… 20 years ago most of the people on the internet were likely similar to you, so most of their desired results were similar to yours.
Now people on the internet since the early 2000 are a minority compared to the “democratized” flood of users who joined in the mobile crapplication phase and started skewing search results towards simpler, less useful results.
SEO and ads didn’t help, but the whole ecosystem broke the model.

251·1 month agoAbsolutely. You know where all the players are and what they have. Just check if something that the client is reporting is IMPOSSIBLE and kick the player who threw the request. If you have a player who is performing at over a certain level of realistic performance, have someone manually check them to verify they’re legitimately that skilled and if so, flag the account as “actually just that good”. It’s the only reliable solution.

“But, it doesn’t support multi-story gingerbread houses…”
“You don’t really need that. It’s not a supported feature. If you want it, write an appropriate Waylandmas compositor to support the functionality.”
