Cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works•Veeam Backup Vulnerabilities Enable Remote Code Execution as RootEnglish
7·10 days agoThis is kinda overblown. The exploit requires an “authenticated” user that does not already have an admin privilage. Seems to me like that is a very small population of possible examples.
The stupid Veeam software doesn’t even like to launch unless you run it as admin, so I wonder how many people have even built setups for non system-admin users to be able to do things with it.
my veeam is on a vlan that can’t even access the internet and isn’t connected to the domain, so anyone that can log into Windows on it is gonna have elevated privilages.

Technology@lemmy.world•Nvidia takes $5 billion stake in Intel under September agreementEnglish
29·18 days agoi was reading earlier that this is looking more and more like ENRON style accounting and acquisition. That ended badly but it didn’t happen on a scale that NVIDIA is currently treading
yay breaks too often to be relied on for system updates
don’t let this type of bantering concern you
we are all just splitting hairs and knocking each other’s preferences when it is basically trivial. Like BMW and Mercedes drivers trying to one up who drives the superior German car

Cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works•CISA Warns of Exploited Flaw in Asus Update Tool - SecurityWeekEnglish
2·29 days agoyes, but IDK what it’s called off the top of my head. I got suspicious after noticing firewall logs to asus before the spamming Microsoft logs. the setting also lets the bios talk to the os by providing drivers during the Windows oobe, it will inject the Asus software like it’s preinstalled like OEM supplied. pissed me off because I have a iso of windows from ma visual studio download that’s basically the latest widows patched.i was like …blank slate, should just be Microsoft wtf is Asus junk software doing there?!

Cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works•CISA Warns of Exploited Flaw in Asus Update Tool - SecurityWeekEnglish
2·29 days agoI suprised it took this long. I bought a new motherboard in 2023 and discovered that the bios phones home and can patch the bios before the OS loads and that just was a big NOPE for me and I disabled it.

I have had arch installed on this laptop for 10+ years
today I look at the state of drive space
the OS is at a little less then 37GB of which 18.5GB are cached installs from pacman
cleaning the cache is as simple as paccache
10 years this install has been on this laptop and I use it daily.
Where is the bloat?

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Linux is the reason Windows apps are bloated these days
6·1 month agoThe MacOS of 7.x< is nothing like the MacOS of the modern era (based on BSD). It is a drastic change and old software wasn’t even compatible with the new one.
the windows key + r will open the Run command window, seems a lot easier then what you did for that but the other stuff PowerToys do is worth it

that should be called a Theseus MK3 because it resembles nothing of its original design lol
