xylol@leminal.spaceto Linux@programming.dev•Here's why Linux market share isn't going to skyrocket anytime soon2·7 days agoI’ll have to check that out. I remember it was like that on popOS but for whatever reason I ended up doing it the fstab way, I think it wouldn’t stay after reboots or something and after I learned about fstab I just copy pasta’d the same thing over instead of looking more into it
xylol@leminal.spaceto Linux@programming.dev•Here's why Linux market share isn't going to skyrocket anytime soon41·7 days agoI think one thing that was trickier for me on linux than windows was mounting a network share from my server to my laptop. I had to search online what to do, after I figured out how to edit fstab it was pretty simple but if I didnt already know how to edit a file with something like nano or how to change directories in the terminal it would have seemed way more complicated, then again the fact that Im mounting a nas share is already well beyond most peoples use case and already means I have the knowledge to look up what I want to do. I think in order to jump to linux you have to be wanting to not deal with enshitification so you are willing to put a little effort to get away from bigger annoying problems, or if they are just handed a linux machine and all they really need is the browser and you are there for any questions then it works
how do we then transfer the charge from the shits to the devices?

I’ve never really seen that much color on it, but I use dark mode so its basically just dark gray and white font, we transitioned from slack a few years ago when I joined a community for drone stuff but over time people stopped flying drones and played games more
I went with bazzite after using hyprland and arch for a while, for gaming and photo editing its been great. Comes loaded with so much stuff which was actually kind of nice. The only thing I didn’t like is the focus on flatpaks but they are fine for most things. I just had to install darktable natively with rpm ostree because the flatpak kept crashing out if I scrolled past too many photos.
Other then that it’s been solid on my laptop and gaming rig
When you launch steam go to steam settings and enable compatibility to use proton, that’ll get a larger portion of games to work

I’m on bazzite
I just figured because he was abducted chained and abused in a basement I didn’t realize, that makes it even more sad
TIL I always imagine the guy in the basement of the shop in the movie pulp fiction
As a noob I really like it. I ran popOS for almost a year, then arch for like two months. I tried fedora for like a week before arch but then decided to try bazzite on a little htpc for the living room, then put it on my main gaming desktop, now I have it on my laptop where I edit photos and videos as a hobby and its been pretty solid.
I don’t really like that it wants you to use flatpaks for everything, since darktable as a flatpaks kept crashing and rapid photo downloaded didn’t have a flatpak so I ended up installing stuff with the ostree rpm but rapid photo is old and not sure how to update it to current version
if you just use your pc then you dont have to use the terminal, unless you do some super basic distro like minimal arch or something
