Hi folks. I’m looking for a new gaming mouse, that’s Linux friendly. I prefer wired lightweight mice, with an option to swap out (or solder) the switches. I’m currently using the Cooler Master MM720 which I love, but it’s too loud for our tiny apartment, so I want something I can throw silent switches into. The MM720 uses optical switches so there aren’t many options.
I’ve looked so far at the OP1, and that’s literally the only thing that comes up when I search on reddit, so much so that it feels like an advertisement at this point. I’m not into crazy competitive gaming, and don’t need 8k or anything fancy like that.

A lot of mice list the switches they’re using, so you can just google it and see what its sound profile is like. Anything with a sensor from the past 6 years will perform the same, so just pick whatever you like the most based on shape and color.
I don’t love Logitech, but their G600 works well on Linux and has plenty of buttons. It is on the large side, so maybe not the best if you play more shooters than MMOs.

I got the new Keychron M5 ergonomic mouse with all the gaming features and I love it. It didn’t take me long to get used to it and David praised it as well on LTT’s Short Circuit channel.

I have the M3 and love it, but it’s not a particularly quiet mouse so may not be the biggest upgrade sound-wise
Take a look at the mountain makalu!! I absolutely love it. And its light and fits right in my hand. Kind of hard to find except on ebay. Very solid mouse to replace my a310 steelseries.
Maybe checkout Incott G23. It has hotswappable optical switches. It came with a couple of extra switches when I bought it and one of the pairs were silent. It works both wired and wireless.
Their web driver works on Brave Browser for me on linux (I think I remember adding a udev rule for this). I’m guessing it only works on chromium browsers since they say it only works on chrome and edge on their page.

The Incott G24 has hotswappable mechanical mouse switches, which I swapped with Kailh silent microswitches. I like it a lot!
The G24 came with silent switches in the free sample pack that’s included, but those felt kind of mushy to me. The Kailh ones tend to be more a bit more snappy.
This looks great, though I do wish there was a wired version.
It does work wired if you use the USB C cable and plug it in to the mouse. Are you looking for a wired only mouse?
I guess I just feel like there’s no point in paying for wireless if I don’t use it. But I might give it a shot.

Does anybody have any experience with it on Linux? Does it work with Piper?
I don’t but I’m using a Logitech mouse without issue and Logitech is known to do nothing for Linux users,
I’ve been pretty happy with my Glorious Model D wired, feels good as far as shape and button quality, tracks nicely and works great in games. The switches are a little clicky like most mice, but looking at the construction it looks quite easy to open up to solder new ones in.
It works with OpenRGB too.

Dang, they do use standard switches I think so replacements could be soldered in. I had to do that a few times on my last mouse which was a Logitech g602.
This seems pretty nice, although I don’t love the look of it. Why do they need that weird logo? Just my opinion obv. But much appreciated, it nearly fits the bill.
Yeah it’s a bit much on the gamer marketing lol, but it does work well.
I don’t think the Razer Basilisk V2 is light, but it is very good for my needs when using Linux… despite the scroll wheel turning to trash. It’s 20k DPI, as I happened to do competitive gaming.

@mugita_sokiovt @fleet Heavily recommending against the MX Masters for gaming - they’re comfy and have nice features but they only have a 125Hz polling rate.
That’s a fair assessment, I’d say. I didn’t catch the 8ms polling nonsense. I wouldn’t recommend the Basilisk V2 either, despite a 1kHz poll rate, as the scroll wheel becomes garbage after a couple years of use.
